Breaking the Bias: Rethinking Culture Fit in Recruitment

I HATE THE "F-WORD".

Yes, I am talking about "FIT" as in "Culture Fit".

WTF does that actually mean?

It means that someone interviewed a candidate and didn't "like" them for whatever reason.

Now, dont get me wrong, not everyone is going to be your ideal best friend at work. But do they really have to be?

As long as they are qualified, have the skills, and have a good moral character (based on asking good, unbiased questions), then who cares?

YES, you want to work with people you "like," but you must be VERY careful not to create a "like bias" in your company.

I've seen it happen WAY too many times, which is why I am a massive proponent of at least 2 employees interviewing a candidate at a minimum to give perspectives on personality/vibes.

While a lot of interviewing is subjective, companies MUST do their best to avoid like bias and for the love of all that is good in this world...

STOP SAYING "CULTURE FIT".

Do you really want a company of all YOU?

How will that help grow the team, the product and support various clients?

IMO you want a diversity of mindset, thoughts and perspectives.
