5 men took their own lives in the US during the same one hour of this interview with AJ Gibson.
Let that sink in.
Asking "Are you OK?" is not enough.
We are more isolated than ever, thanks to the pandemic.
Many of us engage more with bots daily than other humans, and this has caused a massive uptick in isolation that has led to depression, especially in men.
Combine that with the fact that many men are scared or unwilling to reach out for help or even talk with their male friends due to societal issues or it being perceived as a weakness.
In the United States, the suicide rate among males is 4 times higher than that of females. Male deaths represent 79% of suicides, amounting to roughly 100 men dying by suicide every day, over 36,000 annually.
We must take ownership of this awful statistic and do something about it. And that starts with taking action.
So it's up to us, fellow men, your friends, to check in and really take the initiative to engage and talk about our $hit.
Please listen to my incredibly deep, personal, and vulnerable conversation with TV personality AJ Gibson on #thePOZcast and share it with someone who needs to hear it.
Together, WE can make a difference and save more men. But it will take work!
I want to thank my friend Skye Malin and the good people at Movember for their support and continuing to fight for Men's Mental Health.
