James Nielsen is the CEO and Founder of Vendition, where he oversees all aspects of the company’s strategy and operations. Prior to founding Vendition, James spent his career building, managing, and leading high performing sales teams at venture-backed software companies including Ooyala, Ustream, Wizeline, and IntApp. He also led domestic and international Sales Development, Account Executive, Field Sales, Sales Engineering, Renewal, and Customer Success teams at these software companies.
James built and designed his first Sales Development team in 2009 and is considered one of the pioneers in the Sales Development profession. Most recently, he created the first ever consumer Sales Bootcamp™ in 2015 and still runs the salesbootcamp.com online program.
This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s:
James is actually an engineer by education and trade, but one day when he was talking in the breakroom at Qualcomm a senior sales leader overheard a conversation he was having and started recruiting him to think about engineering sales.
Through James’s consumer Sales Bootcamp, he gives aspiring sales professionals a real life application where they can “learn and earn” meaning that they can work an entry level sales position where they can begin to build their hard skill sets, while also getting paid to do the job.
In crafting company culture, you have to have a strong balance between keeping things productive while also not over-doing the productivity metrics, so that you can avoid people burning out from overworking.
James recognizes that in the remote world of work for people earlier in their sales career, learning and climbing through the ranks is going to be a slower process for many.
James is a Guiness World Record recipient, for running a beer mile in under 5 minutes. Besides being a legitimate seasoned runner– he also prepared using his engineering expertise to determine which beer would be optimal for chugging as well as what temperature they should be kept at.
