Chris Jericho: Wrestling Superstar: Creativity In and Out of The Ring

Chris Jericho: Wrestling Superstar: Creativity In and Out of The Ring

Chris Jericho is an acclaimed wrestler,  actor, musician, author, podcaster, and television personality. He is one of the most popular performers in the history of the wrestling business and was named one of the top five most charismatic WWE performers of all time by wwe.com. In January 2019, Jericho signed with All Elite Wrestling and is an integral reason why AEW is the hottest wrestling promotion in the world today.

A podcast innovator, Jericho read the future and started the “Talk Is Jericho” podcast in 2013. Past guests include Dennis Miller, Larry King, William Shatner, Mike Tyson, Kevin Smith, Chris Tucker, John Cena, Gene Simmons, Stormy Daniels, and Slash. The podcast has currently amassed over 275 million downloads over more than 850 episodes. Chris is also the lead singer of the internationally successful rock band Fozzy, whose seventh album, “Judas” has over 38 million streams on Spotify.
Always the innovator, after Jericho’s initial two NFT series SOLD OUT quickly over the past six months. As a result, he has expanded his collaboration with Semkhor and Phantasma Blockchain to create a Graphic Novel based on Chris’ original character, The Painmaker, which will also be sold as NFTs in the near future.

This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s:

Chris drew a lot of inspiration and drive from his father’s success as an athlete playing in the NHL. Although he didn’t have the same affinity or skill to play pro-hockey, he applied that same mindset to wrestling and making music. Chris once waited in line for three hours to meet pro-wrestler Ricky “The Dragon” Steamboat. When he finally got to the front of the line, he asked him “how tall are you?” Ricky was also 5’11” which inspired Chris to pursue wrestling seriously because he was the same height.

Chris recalls a hilarious moment from his podcast where musician Meatloaf was his guest, and apparently got lost on the way to the studio. After almost being forced to cancel due to scheduling, they started recording immediately and Meatloaf angrily ranted about the experience.

The “Talk Is Jericho” podcast was started after Chris discovered podcasting while appearing as a guest on Adam Carolla’s podcast. When it launched in 2013, Chris was way ahead of the podcasting curve and is now similarly pioneering the NFT space.

The Painmaker graphic novel and NFT was actually based on a character Chris created in his wrestling career. Chris has expanded the character to have a backstory as an intergalactic serial killer, who is reformed but still occasionally relapses to his old ways.
