Cheri Garcia: Sobriety and Giving Second Chances

Cheri Garcia: Sobriety and Giving Second Chances

For me in my own career and personal growth journey, stepping outside of my comfort zone has been an area of development and tremendous growth that has driven my success. It really kicked into high gear when first deciding to go out on my own and launch my own business, but I wanted to take it a step further. My mentor Marcus Glover has been volunteering for years in the penitentiary system and introduced me to Defy Ventures- where they work with incarcerated men and women to mentor and coach them in creating their own business and prepare them for a better life when released. I have been volunteering with them over the past couple of years and it has been tremendous. One of the biggest (of many) take aways is all about “Second Chances”- and putting life in an entirely new perspective.
My guest today, Cheri Garcia is the Founder of Cornbread Hustle, a staffing agency for second chances. Cheri is passionate about helping felons and people in recovery find transformation through employment or entrepreneurship.
As someone who has re-invented her own life, Cheri wanted to create a company to help others do the same. Before starting Cornbread Hustle, Cheri found her own transformation and recovery through inventing a tanning bed and getting a career in the TV news industry.
Cheri developed expert level skills for marketing and PR and She uses those talents to help individuals getting out of prison re-brand themselves to become the person they want to be and get noticed by the people they want to meet.
Cheri and I chatted recently and swapped our stories and I was blown away with her resilience, tenacity and what she has created with Cornbread hustle. I am trilled to have her on today to share her story and a whole lot more. Enjoy and thanks for listening to #thePOZcast
