BEST OF: DJ Skee & Nick Holmstén: The Future of Web3 in the Music Industry (E233)

First aired 9/23/22

Nick Holmstén is the Co-Founder and Co-CEO of TSX Entertainment. Prior to forming TSX Entertainment in partnership with Fortress Investment Group, Nick was Global Head of Music for Spotify and was integral in turning the company into a global music powerhouse. He created the playlist as we know it today, transformed how artists release music, reinvented how fans discover artists and expanded the reach of artists around the world. Nick was also the CEO & Founder of Tunigo, which Spotify acquired in 2013.

Scott Keeney (alias DJ Skee) is the founder of Dash Radio and is best known for introducing the world to artists on the radio, including Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Post Malone, Travis Scott and others. He has also produced for artists from Snoop Dogg to Michael Jackson and composed music for top-selling video games series like Halo and Ghost Recon. An early pioneer in the metaverse, Scott’s gaming studio division produces events and programming within metaverse experiences that include the recently launched Paris World on Roblox. He's also teamed up with eBay on several collectible collaborations with interactive components.

This Episode’s Heavy-hitter’s:

Because of his current position as CEO of TSX, many people may not know that Nick is actually a musician himself and has worked with greats like Simon Cowell at the forefront of pioneering new stars via American Idol. He also has tons of noteworthy professional credits on huge records.

The opportunity TSX Entertainment has with building a performance venue that’s designed specifically to be reconstructed in the Metaverse is massive, considering its home in Times Square gets more traffic than the biggest festivals in the world on a daily basis.

DJ Skee believes that some of the chief innovation in Web 3 will be in cases where the audience may not even know that Web 3 technology is involved. The value is still in using the technology to create the best experience possible rather than using the technology as a promotional strategy.

Nick and Scott dropped a little exclusive in this conversation where they hinted that there might be some live performances organized by TSX in Times Square by year's end, around November.

Dj Skee broke down how he thinks live entertainment could become so immersive in the Metaverse that people could actually collaborate with their favorite artists by playing the instruments behind a singer for example, as if they were playing with them live.
